parippu kalan – unique times



Sambar dhal                                 -1 cup.

Chopped cucumber                  -1 cup.

Shredded coconut                    -1 cup.

Green  chillies                            – 4 nos

Cumin seeds                               – 1 teaspoon

turmeric powder                     – 1 teaspoon

Salt                                                – to taste

For seasoning

Coconut oil                                – 2 tablespoons,

Mustard seeds                         – 1 teaspoon

Dry chillies                               – 2 nos

Curry leaves                           – Bit


Cook the first 2 items together with 1 teaspoon of turmeric. When done set aside. coarsely grind the coconut  with green chillies and cumin. Add this to the cooked dhal with enough salt. Mix all together and keep on heat till well blended with a thick gravy. Heat the oil add mustard seeds, chillies and curry leaves when they are ready pour over the  curry. This will be fairly thick to pour over the  rice.
