Wild elephants chased by farmers trapped in canal; Forest department caught in trouble

Farmers chased away wild elephants that came to destroy the crop. The forest officials rescued the wild herd trapped in the canal. It was in Mysore, Karnataka, that the mob got trapped in the canal. The herd landed on Monday in Gurupura village near Nagarhole tiger sanctuary. As the herd reached the fields, the villagers made a noise and chased them away.

Five elephants were trapped in a canal in the village of Hanagade when the herd dispersed. The herd of elephants was frightened as they could not climb out of the canal. Scenes of horned jungles having to climb back down without being able to climb through the walls of the canal went viral on social media. The canal from the Tirtha River in Hunsur Taluk, Mysore is a jungle.

As the villagers gathered in the area, forest department officials arrived. The elephants were rescued without injuries. IFS officer Sushant Nanda shared the footage of the incident on social media. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the forest department. Many critics say the Ministry of Environment and the Forest Department should work together to prevent such clashes between humans and wildlife.
