India’s Fielding Woes Raise Concerns Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026 Semi-Final

India’s fielding standards have come under sharp criticism during the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026, particularly after Abhishek Sharma dropped two straightforward catches against West Indies in the final Super 8 clash at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. His mistakes pushed India’s tally to 13 dropped catches in the tournament so far, highlighting a major concern for the Suryakumar Yadav-led side. Statistically, India currently ranks as the worst catching team in the tournament, with a catching efficiency of just 71.7 percent, raising questions ahead of their crucial semifinal clash against England in Mumbai.

Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel acknowledged India’s strong batting and bowling line-up but stressed that fielding remains a persistent weakness. Speaking on a JioStar show, Patel noted that the issue has been troubling the team for nearly a year and a half, with frequent dropped chances costing them valuable runs. He emphasized that against a strong England side, India will need to be at their absolute best, especially in the field, to avoid giving away crucial moments.

Meanwhile, India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel also admitted that the team’s fielding has been below expectations, pointing out that lapses in the field often cost the side 15–20 extra runs. As India prepares to face a formidable England batting line-up featuring Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook and others, the team management has urged players to step up and focus on executing their skills better. With a place in the final at stake, India will aim to correct their fielding errors and deliver a more complete performance in the high-pressure semifinal encounter.
