Robert Vadra Summoned by ED in Shikohpur Land Deal Case
Businessman Robert Vadra, brother-in-law of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday in connection with a money laundering probe related to a land transaction in Shikohpur, Haryana. The summons follows Vadra’s non-appearance on April 8. Upon receiving the fresh summons, Vadra arrived at the ED office accompanied by supporters, where his statement is expected to be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The case centers around a 2008 land deal in which Vadra’s company, Skylight Hospitality, purchased approximately three acres of land in Shikohpur for ₹7.5 crore. Subsequently, Haryana’s town planning department issued a letter of intent for a commercial colony on 2.71 acres of the land. Skylight later sold the entire plot to real estate giant DLF for ₹58 crore. The sale deed was duly registered in DLF’s name, triggering scrutiny over potential irregularities and profits made through alleged influence.
Denying any wrongdoing, Vadra termed the ED’s move a “political vendetta,” claiming the central government was misusing investigative agencies to target the Opposition. “Whenever I talk for the people, they try to suppress me,” he stated. Congress supporters present outside the ED office echoed his sentiments, raising slogans accusing the Narendra Modi-led government of pressuring political rivals through such investigations.
