Rape Threats Over My Stand On Sajid Khan: Delhi Women’s Panel Chief
Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, claimed today that she has been receiving rape threats on Instagram ever since she demanded in a letter to the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, that filmmaker Sajid Khan be fired from the reality competition Bigg Boss due to claims of sexual harassment made against him by numerous women during the #MeToo movement.
“I have been receiving rape threats on Instagram ever since I wrote a letter to the I&B minister to get #SajidKhan out of Bigg Boss. They clearly want to stop our work. I am filing a complaint with the Delhi Police. Register FIR and investigate. Arrest those who are behind them!” she wrote on Twitter along with screenshots of two Instagram messages where she received the threats.
On October 1, the first episode of Bigg Boss’ 16th season aired. Salman Khan, an actor, serves as the show’s host.
“Ten women had accused Sajid Khan of sexual harassment during the #MeToo movement. All these complaints show the disgusting mentality of Sajid. Now, this man has been given a place in Bigg Boss, which is wrong. I have written to @ianuragthakur to have Sajid Khan removed from this show,” Ms Maliwal had said in a tweet in Hindi on Monday.
After numerous women accused Sajid Khan of sexual harassment in 2018, the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) put him on a one-year suspension.
He quit earlier that year as director of “Houseful 4,” and Farhad Samji took over.
