PM Modi Welcomes Trump’s 20-Point Gaza Peace Plan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s newly announced 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the Israel-Gaza war. In a post on X, Modi said the plan offered a “viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development” for both Palestinians and Israelis, as well as stability in the wider West Asian region. He urged all parties to support Trump’s initiative to bring the conflict to an end.
Trump unveiled the plan in Washington after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The proposal calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces once conditions are met. It also seeks to establish a temporary governing board in Palestine led by Trump and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. Amnesty would be granted to Hamas members who decommission their weapons and agree to peaceful co-existence.
India has consistently called for an immediate ceasefire, unconditional release of hostages, and uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Gaza while supporting a two-state solution. The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated last month that New Delhi’s stance on the conflict remains unchanged. Meanwhile, Israel faces growing diplomatic isolation, underscored by a walkout during Netanyahu’s address at the 80th UN General Assembly and his recent apology to Qatar over civilian casualties in a military strike.
