Zomato Launches ‘Healthy Mode’ to Promote Mindful Eating in India

Food delivery giant Zomato has rolled out a new feature called ‘Healthy Mode’, aiming to put nutrition at the center of online food ordering. The tool, currently live in Gurugram, uses artificial intelligence and restaurant-provided data to score dishes on nutritional value, helping users filter menus for healthier options. The launch marks a significant step for India’s food-tech sector, which is increasingly shifting from pure convenience to supporting mindful eating habits.

The move comes amid changing food preferences in India, where health awareness has risen sharply post-pandemic. Studies by Ipsos reveal that 78% of Gen Z consumers identify as conscious eaters, while over half follow specific diets such as intermittent fasting. Rival platform Swiggy has also introduced initiatives like a high-protein section and hygiene-focused certifications, underscoring growing competition to cater to health-conscious users.

However, challenges remain. Rising food prices and consumer attachment to comfort food could limit adoption unless apps pair healthy choices with incentives such as discounts or loyalty points. Still, Zomato’s latest feature signals a new chapter for the industry—moving beyond indulgence and speed toward becoming long-term partners in wellness and lifestyle management.
