Mukesh Ambani Pledges Rs 10 Lakh Crore AI Investment, Vows to Cut Cost of Intelligence

At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, announced that Reliance Jio will drastically reduce the cost of artificial intelligence in India, just as it previously slashed mobile data prices. He declared that Jio aims to connect the country to the “intelligence era,” delivering affordable and reliable AI services across sectors, government services, and social development. “India cannot afford to rent intelligence,” Ambani said, underscoring the need for self-reliant and cost-effective AI access.

Ambani also revealed a massive investment plan of Rs 10 lakh crore over the next seven years, beginning this year, to accelerate AI development. As part of its strategy, Jio Intelligence will build India’s sovereign compute infrastructure. Construction is already underway on multi-gigawatt AI-ready data centres in Jamnagar, with more than 120 megawatts expected to go live in the second half of 2026 and a roadmap toward gigawatt-scale compute capacity for AI training and large-scale inference.

Highlighting the pillars of the initiative, Ambani outlined three focus areas: gigawatt-scale data centres, a strong green energy backbone, and a nationwide edge computing network integrated with Jio’s telecom infrastructure. With surplus renewable energy capacity anchored by solar projects in Kutch and Andhra Pradesh, the company aims to power AI growth sustainably. Ambani predicted that India would emerge as a leading global AI powerhouse, leveraging its demographic strength, digital infrastructure, and vast data generation capabilities.
