Bill Gates Cancels Keynote at India AI Summit
Bill Gates will no longer deliver his keynote address at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, according to organizers and his foundation. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said the decision was made to ensure that attention remains focused on the summit’s main priorities, though no specific reason was provided for the cancellation.
The development adds to ongoing challenges surrounding the summit, which has already faced criticism over organisational issues, including technical problems involving a robot demonstration and complaints from delegates about disruptions caused by VIP traffic arrangements. Gates’ absence is seen as a setback for the event, which aimed to highlight India’s growing role in artificial intelligence innovation.
The cancellation also comes weeks after the release of emails by the U.S. Department of Justice showing communications between Gates and late financier Jeffrey Epstein related to philanthropic discussions. Gates has previously acknowledged meeting Epstein but said the interactions were limited to charity-related matters and described the association as a mistake. The Gates Foundation, founded in 2000, remains one of the world’s largest supporters of global health and development initiatives.
