Minor girl was allegedly molested by about 400 people in six months; Maharashtra
A minor girl was gang raped by more than four hundred persons in Beed, Maharashtra. According to the girl, about 400 people were tortured in six months. The girl had approached the police several times with the complaint but no action was taken and she was later molested by a policeman.
The victim’s mother died a few years ago. Eight months ago, the girl’s father married her and sent her away. But the father refused to accept the girl who returned home as she could not bear the abuse at home. Later, the woman lived by begging at the Ambajogai bus stand in Beed. It was during this period that the young woman was brutally tortured several times. The girl is currently two months pregnant.
Police have registered cases under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act and the POCSO in the girl’s complaint. Beed police chief Raja Ramaswamy told that three people have been arrested so far in the incident. A lot of people tortured me. I went to the police station several times with a complaint, but the police mocked me and sent me away. “They were not willing to accept or take action on my complaint,” she said in a statement to Child Welfare Committee activists.
