Maharashtra Charity Commissioner Halts Tata Trusts Board Meeting Amid Governance Probe
India’s Maharashtra charity commissioner has directed Tata Trusts to defer its scheduled board meeting following complaints that triggered an inquiry into the trust’s governance structure. The order states that the meeting cannot proceed until an inspector completes the investigation and submits a report.
Tata Trusts holds a controlling stake in Tata Sons, the parent company of the Tata Group, which has been facing pressure to pursue a public listing. According to the order reviewed by Reuters, one of the complainants is senior trustee Venu Srinivasan.
In a late-night statement, Tata Trusts said it is examining the directions issued by authorities and added that it was unaware of any complaint filed by Srinivasan. The development comes amid increasing scrutiny over governance and leadership structures within one of India’s most influential charitable and corporate institutions.
