Kohli Says He’ll Play 2027 World Cup Only If He Can Contribute
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has said he will consider playing the 2027 ODI World Cup only if he feels he can genuinely contribute to the team. The former India captain stated that he has nothing left to prove in cricket and would continue only if both he and the team management believe he can add value.
The 37-year-old retired from T20 internationals after India’s 2024 World Cup victory and stepped away from Test cricket last year, leaving ODIs as his only international format. Kohli scored 651 runs in 13 ODIs last year and has also been in strong form in the ongoing IPL season for Royal Challengers Bangalore, including a century this season.
Kohli also spoke about handling criticism over his form, saying players should either be trusted fully or told directly if they are no longer needed. With nearly 14,800 ODI runs in 311 matches, Kohli remains one of the greatest batters in the format, behind only Sachin Tendulkar in all-time ODI run-scoring charts. The 2027 ODI World Cup will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
