Infosys Allows Staff To Take Up “Gig” Jobs With Managers’ Prior Consent

With the previous approval of supervisors and provided that the employment does not compete with the company, its clients, or present a conflict of interest, Infosys has enabled employees to take on “gig” jobs on the side.
The corporation explained how staff members can take on “gig” labour in an internal email to employees.

According to analysts, the decision may help the business handle certain attrition issues because it enables staff to pursue their interests in technology while also pursuing new sources of income, albeit with strict restrictions. However, it neither defined “gig” work nor referred to it as “moonlighting.”

The most recent action comes at a time when the controversy about moonlighting is grabbing media attention. Moonlighting is the practise of employees doing multiple jobs at once by taking on side employment.

Infosys made it plain at the company’s Q2 earnings that the company does not support moonlighting and that it had terminated individuals who were engaged in multiple jobs over the previous 12 months.

Infosys said it depends on its employees to make sure this doesn’t happen in a Thursday email to employees: “Any employee, who wishes to take up gig work, may do so, with the prior consent of their manager and BP-HR, and in their personal time, for establishments that do not compete with Infosys or Infosys’ clients.”Infosys as a company emphasises the capacity to continuously pick up new knowledge and experience. According to Infosys, it is only logical that the company encourages employees to take on other initiatives as appropriate in their spare time.
