IndiGo to End Widebody Operations, Exit Norse Atlantic Lease
IndiGo will discontinue its widebody operations from October 25 and end its damp lease agreement with Norway’s Norse Atlantic Airways by October 31. The airline said rising operational challenges, including geopolitical tensions, higher fuel costs, currency pressures, and airspace restrictions, have made the programme less viable.
As part of the change, IndiGo’s Mumbai-Amsterdam route will be operated using Airbus A321XLR aircraft, while flights to and from London’s Heathrow Airport will be suspended until the airline receives its Airbus A350-900 fleet. Norse Atlantic confirmed that IndiGo will return all six leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Despite ending the lease, IndiGo said it remains committed to expanding its international network. The airline plans to grow its European operations with A321XLR aircraft while preparing for the arrival of its own A350 widebody jets. Affected passengers will be offered alternative travel arrangements or refunds where applicable.
