‘Common Cause’ criticises NDA’s appointment methods

Pointing out the fact that the NDA government blindly follows some bad practices initiated by the erstwhile UPA government, the ‘Common Cause’, the Non-Government Organisation which is well known for its democratic intervention in the national policy issues, has alleged that in the crucial matters like the appointment of the Comptroller Auditor General of India, the BJP led NDA has adopted the widely-criticised method used by the erstwhile Congress party led UPA government.

Denouncing the method of appointment adopted by the Indian supremo, the NGO has asked: why Prime Minister Narendra Modi can’t send a positive message to the people and his opponents by adopting a transparent method of the appointment of the constitutional position.

Experts say that had the PM adopted such a policy in the appointments of the crucial position which demands someone who has professional knowledge and other qualities such as professional experience, the Saffron regime’s slogan of ‘zero tolerance towards corruption’ would have reached many hearts.

The central government recently appointed Rajiv Mehrishi, who is a 1978 batch IAS officer, as the CAG, through an opaque appointment method, inviting wide flak from several quarters of the society. As per the media report, he is expected to replace the present CAG, Shashi Kant Sharma, later this month.
