Committee examining sexual harassment allegations against CJI sends a letter of request to hear what the top judge has to say

A committee appointed by the Chief Justice of India to examine the sexual harassment allegations raised against him by a former court employee has sent a letter of request to CJI Ranjan Gogoi to request him to appear before the committee.

The committee has listened to what the top judge has to say about the allegations raised against him by the former employee worked under him.

It is a leading national daily that has publicised the report that the CJI has appeared before the committee probing the sexual harassment allegations raised against him.

The new paper has claimed that it was informed by a high profile, source close to the top court of the country, about the developments surrounding the committee proceedings.

Recently, the complainant declined to participate in the committee proceedings, citing that the court seemed not to appreciate the fact that her complaint was not an ordinary complaint but a compliant of sexual harassment against a sitting CJI.

The news paper has reported that she was informed by the court that the consequences of her decision would be that the committee would have to continue the hearing ex parte.

The committee is supposed to submit its report before a full court. Once it is done, every top court judge will get the chance to verify the report carefully.

The sexual harassment allegations were initially publicised by some online news websites. A few hours post the publication, the CJI organised an extra-ordinary hearing in the top court. In the hearing itself, he denounced the allegations as a larger plot to deactivate the office of the CJI.
