People of Kerala celebrates Onam

The people of Kerala world over celebrated Onam, the harvest festival with much joy. Onam is celebrated in the memory of Mahabali, a king who ruled over Kerala. Houses were decorated with “pookalam” , floral carpets to receive Mahabali who is supposed to visit Kerala on the Thiruvonam day of Chingam. All of Kerala was in festive mood, even though a tanker mishap in Northern Kerala and incessant rains took away some enthusiasm. Onam is also the biggest shopping season in Kerala; when merchant give away plenty of discounts to woo customers to their shops. Overall it is a time when Malayalees come home and enjoy
