Dalit family beaten up for entering temple; Five arrested

A Dalit family who visited a temple in Gujarat was allegedly assaulted. The incident took place in a village at Kutch district. Police said the 20-member gang attacked the Arang family in Gandhidham town in Kutch district. Govind Vaghela and his family were attacked. The incident took place in a village within the limits of Bachao police station.

Defendants were outraged when the family went to pray at the Ram temple in the village. They also attended the temple ceremonies. While Vaghela was sitting in his shop, the assailants came and attacked him. The goods in the shop were destroyed and the cattle were released to their farms. The assailants beat them with pipes and sticks. Their mobile phone was stolen and the auto was destroyed. The family was also attacked.

Five people were arrested three days after the incident. Two FIRs have been registered against Govind Vaghela and his father Jaganbhai. The case has been registered against Kana Ahir, Rajesh Maharaj, Kesra Rabai, Paba Rabari and Kana Koli. The case was registered under the sections of Attempted Murder, Robbery, Insult, SS and ST Prevention of Torture Act.
