Crowds flock at Kanteerava Stadium: Pay Homage to Late Kannada Actor Puneeth Rajkumar
The funeral of Kannada film star Puneeth Rajkumar, who passed away yesterday, will be held this evening. The ceremony will be held at the Kanteerava Studio, where the bodies of parents Dr. Rajkumar and Parvathamma was buried. The body will be taken in a mourning procession to the Kandirava Studio, a few kilometers away from the Kanteerava Stadium, which was on public display last night. The city of Bangalore, especially Kandirava Stadium, is under heavy police security. A public holiday has been declared in Karnataka today.
Puneeth was rushed to a nearby hospital and later to Vikram Hospital. She was admitted to the ICU and given emergency treatment but could not save her life. The death was confirmed at 2.30pm. Crowd had started flocking to the hospital from the moment he was admitted to the hospital. Some of the fans became violent when the news of his death came out. The area came under heavy police cordon as things got to the point where buses were smashed. Currently, 6,000 police personnel and 40 KSRP platoons are deployed in Bangalore to prevent any untoward incidents. And the City and Reserve and the RAF are also present.
Funeral services will be held after the arrival of Puneeth’s daughter Vandita in the US. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that a special flight has been arranged for Vandita, who will arrive in Delhi at 1 pm, to reach Bangalore. Funeral services with full state honors will be held at 7 p.m. The body was brought to Kanteerava Stadium from Vikram Hospital last night for public viewing. Thousands have arrived since yesterday to take one last look at their loved one. Many eminent personalities of Kannada politics and cinema came last night to pay their last respects. Telugu film stars including Junior NTR will also pay their last respects today.
