Akshita Gupta: The Doctor Who Turned To Become an IAS Officer

Akshita Gupta, an IAS officer who was a medical professional, aced the UPSC CSE on her first attempt. She offers several key mains test preparation strategies that helped her ace the exam.

Akshita Gupta has never taken the 2018 civil service examination before. Akshita successfully completed the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Test (UPSC CSE), regarded as one of the toughest tests in the nation, on her first attempt over three years later. Her overall ranking in India was number 69.

In 2020, Akshita took the UPSC CSE exam, choosing the medical science option.  She was a Panchkula, Haryana native studying for her MBBS at the Government Medical College & Hospital in Chandigarh.

Akshita, a doctor by background, is currently enrolled in Patiala’s assistant commissioner training programme. The IAS representative provides some guidance based on her personal experience.

When studying for the mains, Akshita advises jotting down important information about each topic in a neat, thin register. This enables you to review the day before the test and help you remember material on almost every subject.

Akshita claims that one mistake applicants do is to start studying for the exam while still working and retake it the following year. Even if it takes two to three years, she suggests properly studying the material before the exam.

She asserts that with four to five hours of practise each day, even people who work full-time may pass the UPSC. Despite the fact that Akshita aced the test on her first attempt, the journey was not without difficulties.

The IAS officer used to study during a 15-minute break during a 14-hour shift at the hospital. Her top priority was to study and prepare for subjects in which she performed poorly. She studied for her optional test in the mains in subjects that required greater effort, such as surgery and anatomy.
