Investigators register rape charge against Pollachi sexual abuse case suspects

The Crime Branch CID of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, which is investigating the infamous Pollachi sexual abuse case, has added the rape charge (that is, the section 376 of Indian Penal Code) against the suspects, after verifying several evidences it has received in connection with the case and recording the statements of several victims, who were allegedly abused sexually by the arrested suspects.

The department has almost completed the investigation into the case. So far, the investigation has been limited to those directly involved in the case. The investigators have not gone deep into the case – beyond those arrested in the preliminary stage of the investigation.

However, the department has assured that it would file additional charge sheet if it received fresh evidence potential enough to expand the investigation.

Meanwhile, the government has initiated measures to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
