Tamil Nadu Signs $1.58 Billion Investment Deals
Tamil Nadu has signed agreements worth ₹150.5 billion ($1.58 billion) for 16 new projects backed by overseas investors, including France’s Saint-Gobain and U.S.-based Super Micro Computer. The deals are part of a broader investment drive by the state, which signed a total of 97 agreements worth ₹674.52 billion across multiple sectors. The projects are expected to create more than 100,000 jobs.
Among the major investments, Saint-Gobain will commit ₹20 billion toward a new plant and expansion of its Kanchipuram facility, while Daimler India Commercial Vehicles plans to invest ₹40 billion to expand its Chennai factory. Titan has committed ₹10 billion for expansion, while Sri Lankan apparel manufacturer MAS Holdings will invest ₹8.8 billion.
The investment agreements mark the first major investment conclave since actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay became Tamil Nadu chief minister in May. His administration is seeking to attract more businesses to the state, a major manufacturing hub known for its automotive, electronics and industrial sectors. Other investors include Hinduja Group, Agnikul Cosmos and Ultraviolette, adding to Tamil Nadu’s growing industrial and technology ecosystem.
