The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the prime opposition party of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, has called on a state-wide Bandh to express their protest against the central government’s reluctance to constitute the Cauvery Management Board.

The DMK’s MPs have several times disrupted the functioning of the Indian Parliament in this season in an effort to project the seriousness of the issue in the national political platform.

The present TN Bandh is considered as the follow-up of the efforts taken by the DMK’ MPs to project the issue in the parliament.

The Bandh has badly affected the normal life of the people living in the state. It has disrupted the transport facilities of the state, particularly the rail and road transport.

Almost all businesses and educational institutions have remained close since the commencement of the Bandh.

Fortunately, no case of violence has been reported yet in the state as part of the Bandh launched by the DMK.

Political observers say that the DMK is trying to project the Cauvery issue as the most important issue to mobilise the public against its centre and state rival parties.

M K Stalin, the senior DMK leader, recently organised several strikes in the state including hunger strike before the Bandh to highlight the issue.
