17-year-old sells wife to 55-year-old for Rs 1.8 lakh to buy smartphone
17-year-old boy arrested for selling wife to 55-year-old. The 17-year-old and 26-year-old were married last July. The couple left Odisha in August after their marriage went to work in a brick kiln in Rajasthan. From there, he sold his 17-year-old wife to a 55-year-old Rajasthan native for Rs 1.8 lakh.
The 17-year-old told police he used the money to eat his favorite food and buy a smartphone. The 26-year-old was rescued by police from Baran in Rajasthan. The woman was rescued from a village in Baran district, which shares a border with Madhya Pradesh.
There was a slight clash between the police and the locals who came to rescue the girl. The locals prevented the girl from being taken away. The locals said that the 55-year-old man had bought the girl for money and would not be allowed to take her away. The 17-year-old returned to his village after selling his wife. When the family asked him where his wife was, he replied that he had left.
The woman’s family became suspicious and lodged a complaint with the police. The incident came to light when the police checked his call record. During interrogation, the teenager admitted that he had sold his wife for Rs 1.8 lakh to buy a smartphone. The 17-year-old was produced in juvenile court and transferred to a correctional home.
