UP constitutes SIT to probe Aligarh child murder case
The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team to investigate the infamous Aligarh child murder case, which has triggered a serious public outcry across the state against the way the UP police handled the case in its initial stage.
The Aligarh SP (Rural) will lead the Special Investigation team. The team will receive the support of technical experts.
The team has been advised to complete the investigation in a timely manner.
The authorities have suspended as many as five policemen, who delayed the initiation of the investigation in the first stage, on the charge of negligence.
Several opposition leaders, such as Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi and BSP chief Mayawati, have expressed shock in the incident and urged the authorities to complete the investigation in a timely manner.
The case is one of the brutal crimes which have been reported in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in the recent past.
The authorities have so far arrested nearly two persons in connection with the case.
