Uber To Introduce 25,000 EVs In India Amid Clean Car Push
As part of its first step towards adopting green vehicles, Uber Technologies announced on Monday that it would offer 25,000 electric vehicles (EVs) for ride-sharing in India over the course of three years.
According to Prabhjeet Singh, president of Uber India and South Asia, the EVs would be purchased by Uber’s fleet partners from Tata Motors, India’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer.
“We are going to be a big catalyst in accelerating the (EV) ecosystem,” Singh told Reuters.
The federal and state governments of India are pushing for a higher electrification of shared taxis, a market that is now dominated by BluSmart, a local competitor of Uber that specialises on electric mobility.
