“#BoycottHrithikRoshan” Trends On Twitter, Because Laal Singh Chaddha

After Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, Twitter users’ fascination with the boycotting of Bollywood movies found a new target: Hrithik Roshan and his flick Vikram Vedha.

The justification given by a segment of the Internet is even stranger than the boycott itself. Following the actor’s most recent tweet in which he offered a shout-out to Laal Singh Chaddha of Aamir Khan, calls for a boycott of Hrithik Roshan and his film were made. After a portion of the Internet dredged up Aamir Khan’s 2015 interview excerpts, in which he claimed that his ex-filmmaker wife Kiran Rao had proposed they move countries due to “rising intolerance,” Laal Singh Chaddha found himself at the centre of controversy against his desire.

In his shout out to Laal Singh Chaddha, Hrithik Roshan wrote: “Just watched Laal Singh Chaddha. I felt the HEART of this movie. Pluses and minuses aside, this movie is just magnificent. Don’t miss this gem guys ! Go ! Go now . Watch it. It’s beautiful. Just beautiful.”

Following the discovery of Kanika Dhillon, the film’s writer, Kanika Dhillon’s four-year-old tweets by Internet users, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan became a target of the boycott trend as well. During interviews, Aamir and Akshay both responded to the boycott of their respective movies. Both movies have had lacklustre box office receipts thus far. Raksha Bandhan brought in 34 crore over the course of 5 days, compared to Laal Singh Chaddha’s 45 crore.
