‘Thalaivi’: Arvind Swami to play the role of MGR

The pre-production work of director Vijay’s ‘Thalaivi’, a biopic of Jayalalithaa, is on in full swing, there was no official confirmation on the cast. While Kangana Ranaut was preparing to play former actress and CM Jayalalithaa, it was not decided who will be playing Makkal Thilagam MGR, who had a huge influence on her life. He not only co-starred with Jayalalithaa, but also guided her in her political journey. And now, as per the sources close to the film, Arvind Swami has been roped in to play the Puratchi Thalaivar.

According to the sources it says, “MGR and Jayalalithaa starred in 28 box-office hits between 1965 and 1973. While the makers needed a worthy actor to do justice to his role, another criterion was that the artiste be fluent in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages in which the film will be made. So, they casted Arvind Swami in the role.”

Recently, Vijay and Kangana had gone to Los Angeles to work on the latter three looks in the film. The sources also added that “Kangana is also learning Bharatanatyam from Gayathri Raghuram and Tamil. The shoot will kick off with Kangana from the first week of November in Mysore, and Arvind will join her on November 15”.
