Tencent Invests Rs 10 Crore to Boost India’s Gaming and AVGC Industry
Chinese tech giant Tencent has announced a Rs 10 crore investment initiative to support India’s Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) sector. The company signed separate three-year agreements with the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and the Game Developers Association of India (GDAI) to strengthen talent development, startup growth, and industry collaboration in India’s expanding creative economy.
Under its partnership with SEPC, Tencent plans to support skill development, industry capacity building, and help Indian AVGC companies connect with global markets. The collaboration aims to improve India’s competitiveness in creative exports while creating more international opportunities for studios and professionals in the sector.
Tencent’s agreement with GDAI will focus on grassroots gaming talent and developer engagement through initiatives such as a nationwide Game Jam for students, mentorship programmes, and educator training. The company said India is expected to become the fastest-growing gaming market in Asia and the MENA region, with gaming revenues projected to reach $1.5 billion by 2028 and the gamer population expected to touch 724 million by 2029.
