Stage 3 Pollution-Control Curbs Lifted In Delhi As Air Quality Improves

The authorities have been ordered by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to immediately rescind the curbs that were implemented in the Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) as part of stage three of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

As a result, regional building and demolition projects can get back on track. However, user agencies must adhere rigorously to the standards for dust management.

The CAQM observed that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) for today was 294—roughly 100 points below the level required to activate GRAP stage three actions.

“The improvement in AQI is likely to sustain and the forecast does not indicate any steep degradation in the overall air quality in Delhi-NCR in the next few days.

“The sub-committee, accordingly, hereby decides to revoke with immediate effect its order dated October 29 for invoking actions under Stage-III (severe air quality) of GRAP,” the centre’s air quality panel said in an order.

Under the third stage of GRAP, all construction and demolition activities in Delhi-NCR was prohibited, with the exception of necessary projects. Stone crushers, hot mix machines, and brick kilns were also prohibited from operating.

However, the curbs from GRAP stages one and two will still be in use.
