Rising Crude Prices May Slash India Inc’s FY27 Earnings Growth Forecasts

Analysts have begun trimming earnings growth projections for India Inc. for FY27 as crude oil prices remain elevated above $100 per barrel, driven by ongoing tensions in West Asia. The surge in oil and gas prices is not yet fully reflected in corporate financials, but experts warn it could weigh on performance over the coming quarters. Andrew Holland of Nippon India Asset Management noted that earlier expectations of 10–12% growth may hold only if the geopolitical situation improves quickly; otherwise, projections could fall to 6–10%.

Market observers, including JPMorgan, have also flagged risks to earnings amid supply disruptions and rising costs linked to the West Asia conflict. The firm has already lowered FY27 earnings estimates by 2–10% across key sectors such as consumer goods, automobiles, financials, and oil marketing companies. Analysts highlight that the impact will vary across industries, manifesting through margin pressure, operational challenges, and reduced consumption, with normalization in energy markets potentially taking several months.

Additionally, experts point to the rupee-dollar dynamic as a crucial factor influencing earnings, particularly for export-driven sectors like IT, pharma, and metals. Bino Pathiparampil of Elara Capital indicated that earlier expectations of 15% Nifty EPS growth could decline sharply to 7–8% if elevated oil prices persist. Sectors such as automobiles, airlines, and oil and gas are expected to bear the brunt, underscoring growing uncertainty around India Inc.’s earnings outlook in the face of prolonged geopolitical instability.
