India’s Renewable Energy Deals Surge Five-Fold in 2025 Despite Fewer Transactions
Investment in India’s renewable energy sector witnessed historic growth in 2025, with deal values soaring more than five times even as the number of transactions declined. According to a report by Fieldfisher, India recorded 18 deals in 2025 compared to 21 in 2024, but total investment jumped sharply from $378 million to $2 billion. The trend reflects a broader global shift toward fewer but significantly larger and more strategic investments in clean energy projects.
Globally, renewable energy investments dipped slightly in value—from $13 billion in 2024 to $12 billion in 2025—while deal volumes dropped nearly 27%, from 639 to 468. The report highlighted that geopolitical tensions and energy security concerns are reshaping investment priorities. In major markets like the United States, deal value more than doubled to $5.9 billion despite fewer transactions, while across Asia, governments accelerated renewable adoption to reduce dependence on imported fuels. Similarly, China saw deal values remain strong even as volumes declined.
However, not all regions experienced growth. Investment in Europe fell sharply from $7 billion to $1.7 billion, alongside a drop in deal activity. The hydrogen sector also saw a notable slowdown, with global investments halving to $1.5 billion in 2025. Experts say the evolving landscape signals a move away from post-pandemic opportunistic deals toward long-term, strategic investments focused on energy resilience, domestic supply, and sustainable growth.
