MobiKwik Secures RBI NBFC Licence, Shares Surge 14%
Indian fintech firm One MobiKwik Systems announced on Monday that it has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India for a non-banking financial company (NBFC) licence, marking a significant step in its expansion into regulated lending. The licence will enable the company to launch its lending arm, MobiKwik Financial Services, strengthening its presence in the credit segment.
Following the announcement, shares of the company jumped 14%, reflecting strong investor confidence in its growth strategy. The NBFC licence will allow MobiKwik to roll out lending products more efficiently, improve margins by bringing credit operations in-house, and scale its financial services offerings beyond its existing digital wallet and product distribution business.
The company said its lending arm will focus on providing secured and unsecured loans to consumers and small businesses, particularly targeting underserved markets. However, operations will commence only after the firm receives the final certificate of registration from the central bank upon meeting required conditions.
