“Results Show There Is Full Faith In Democracy”: PM On Big Northeast Win
According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who spoke today at the BJP’s headquarters in Delhi, the BJP’s strong showing in the assembly elections in three northeastern states demonstrates the public’s strong faith in democracy and the democratic process.
In Tripura, the BJP won handily. Along with its ally, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, it is in the lead in Nagaland. The National People’s Party contacted the BJP in Meghalaya to ask them to stop a hung house.
“The results of these elections show people’s strong faith in democracy and democratic institutions in the country,” PM Modi said. The audience responded by shouting “Modi, Modi, Modi”.
“The way the northeast poll results have been extensively highlighted shows the region is neither distant from Dilli nor dil (heart),” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister attributed the strong performance to the BJP members’ tireless efforts in the three northeastern states. “Workers for our party in the northeast put in much, much more effort than any of us do here. They deal with numerous obstacles, “PM Modi made a statement to thunderous applause.
In order to send a symbolic message of gratitude to the people of the northeast, he requested the audience to switch on their mobile phone flashlights and wave them.
With victories in 33 of the state’s 60 seats, the BJP-IPFT (Indigenous Progressive Front of Tripura) coalition took back power in the state. When Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, whose National People’s Party is leading the race, called the chief strategist of the BJP, Amit Shah, Meghalaya was on the verge of a hung house. In the 60-member assembly of Nagaland, the BJP and its ally, the NDPP (Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party), are in the lead with 37 seats.
According to the BJP, the reason it was able to hold onto power in the three northeastern states was due to public support for the infrastructure projects and other quick development initiatives undertaken by the Modi administration.
According to PM Modi, many areas in the region experienced months-long blockades, insurgency, and violence under previous governments.
