Reliance, Vedanta and Adani Eye Andhra Pradesh Rare Earth Projects Amid India’s China Diversification Push
India is accelerating efforts to reduce its dependence on China for rare earth minerals, with major industrial groups Reliance, Vedanta and Adani among companies showing interest in developing processing facilities in Andhra Pradesh. According to sources, nearly 10 firms have expressed interest in setting up rare earth projects in the state, which holds significant reserves of beach sand minerals containing rare earth elements.
The move aligns with New Delhi’s broader strategy to strengthen domestic mining, processing and magnet manufacturing capabilities for critical minerals. Andhra Pradesh has identified large rare earth and titanium resources across its coastline and aims to attract investments worth 500 billion rupees ($5.2 billion) over the next decade through dedicated industrial clusters and policy support.
The state government is expected to introduce a rare earth corridor policy soon, paving the way for project tenders and investment incentives. The initiative complements federal plans to establish rare earth corridors in key states and boost local magnet production, helping India build a stronger supply chain for sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.
