Sudarsan Pattnaik Creates Giant ‘Sand And Tomato’ Santa Claus

On Sunday, a massive 27-foot-tall installation of Sudarsan Pattnaik’s renowned sand and tomato Santa Claus ushered in the holiday season in Odisha as people came to the Gopalpur beach to see the artwork.

The 1.5 tonnes and 60 feet wide installation of Santa Claus, according to Mr. Pattnaik, is the largest of its kind in the world. The Padma Shri recipient claimed that 15 of his students helped him finish the sculpture at the Gopalpur seashore in the Ganjam district.

“#TomatoSanta world’s biggest Tomato with Sand #SantaClause installation,” he said in a tweet.

“We have set records earlier, too, during Christmas by creating the biggest Santa Claus using different mediums. This time, we have used sand and tomato,” Mr Pattnaik, 45, later told reporters.

Over the years, the widely recognised artist has created sand sculptures based on a range of topics.

Following India’s official assumption of the G20 presidency in November, Mr. Pattnaik designed the organization’s logo on sand earlier this month. In 2014, he received the Padma Shri award in recognition of his outstanding artistic achievements.
