Protests Erupt Across India After NEET Medical Entrance Exam Cancelled Over Paper Leak
Protests broke out in New Delhi after authorities cancelled the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), India’s key undergraduate medical entrance examination, following the discovery of a question paper leak. Around 2.3 million students had appeared for the exam on May 3, making it one of the country’s largest competitive tests.
The National Testing Agency announced on Tuesday that the examination process had been scrapped to protect fairness and integrity, adding that fresh dates for the re-examination would be announced soon. Visuals showed members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the opposition Congress party, staging protests and clashing with police barricades in the capital.
NSUI President Vinod Jakhar demanded strict action against those responsible for the leak and called for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The controversy has revived concerns over exam security after similar allegations of question paper leaks during NEET in 2024, when the test was not cancelled.
