Pongal kit is of poor quality; People protest by throwing Kit on Road

Protest in Pongal against road blockades in Tamil Nadu over ration kits procured by the Tamil Nadu government. The protesters also alleged that the Pongal kit was not distributed even after the Pongal holiday and was lying in the ration shops.

In Thiruvaduthurai near Kuthalam in Tamil Nadu, people broke the ration Pongal kit and threw it on the road in protest. People complained that the Pongal kit contained damaged sugar and rotten rice. Angry locals blocked the road in front of the ration shop for two hours. Even after Pongal, the kits are lying in the ration shops without being distributed.

The locals allege that the ration kit is being swindled and the goods are being sold on the black market. Kuthalam police and Public Distribution Department officials reached the spot and held discussions with the protesting locals. The explanation was that the damaged kits were not distributed. Authorities opposed the protest with all available police forces, special services and the army. ”
