PhonePe Postpones IPO Amid Global Market Uncertainty
Flipkart-backed PhonePe has delayed its planned initial public offering (IPO), citing geopolitical tensions and ongoing volatility in global financial markets. CEO Sameer Nigam said the company remains committed to listing in India but will resume the IPO process only after capital markets stabilise. The decision reflects a cautious stance as companies worldwide reassess fundraising plans amid uncertain investor sentiment and external economic risks.
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Bengaluru, PhonePe has emerged as a major player in India’s digital payments ecosystem. The company offers a wide range of services, including consumer and merchant payments, lending, insurance distribution, and digital investment platforms such as Share.Market and Indus Appstore. With over 65 crore registered users and more than 4.7 crore merchants on its network, PhonePe continues to expand its role in driving financial inclusion through technology-led solutions.
The proposed IPO was structured entirely as an offer-for-sale by existing investors, targeting a fundraising of around ₹8,800–9,500 crore and valuing the company at $9–10 billion. Despite reporting a 22% rise in revenue to ₹3,918 crore for the six months ending September 2025, losses widened to ₹1,444 crore. PhonePe currently holds over 48% share of India’s UPI transaction value, highlighting its dominant market position even as it focuses on improving financial performance before entering public markets.
