Indian Stocks Flat as Oil Prices Stay Above $100 Amid Middle East Tensions
India’s benchmark stock indices opened mostly flat on Monday as investors remained cautious amid rising crude oil prices driven by prolonged tensions in the Middle East. The Nifty 50 slipped 0.15% to 23,116.1, while the BSE Sensex declined 0.2% to 74,415.79 in early trading around 9:15 a.m. IST.
Most sectors started the day on a weak note, with 14 of the 16 major sectoral indices trading lower. Broader markets also faced mild pressure as the mid-cap and small-cap indices fell about 0.2% each, reflecting cautious sentiment among investors amid global uncertainties.
Oil prices remained elevated, with Brent crude oil hovering near $104 per barrel. Meanwhile, Donald Trump urged other countries to support efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global oil and gas shipments, adding to concerns in financial markets.
