Panic LPG Bookings Near 88 Lakh as Government Assures Adequate Supply

Panic booking of LPG cylinders in India has surged to nearly 88 lakh amid concerns about global fuel supply disruptions. However, the government has assured consumers that there is sufficient cooking gas available for both households and businesses. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure uninterrupted distribution.

Officials said oil marketing companies have increased domestic production to about 31% to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen supply. The government has also held discussions to ensure steady availability of commercial LPG cylinders, with some states directly supplying cylinders to industries and large commercial users to meet operational needs.

At the same time, authorities have stepped up enforcement to prevent hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders through inspections and raids across several states. The government has urged consumers to avoid panic bookings and use digital platforms for cylinder orders, while those with access to piped natural gas have been encouraged to use Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to reduce pressure on LPG demand.
