Opinion: Why ‘Didi’ can’t be brought back to Congress

The Congress party at present is suffering a serious leadership crisis. That is a reality. That can’t be erased that easily. The best thing that can be done at this moment is to accept the fact and work towards finding a feasible solution.

The Congress needs a leader –not just a leader, but a charismatic leader who is as charismatic as Indian PM Narendra Modi. Does the Congress have any such figures in its camp at present? The reality is there is none. Then, why can’t it recruit a leader from outside?

A political observer opines that the best strategy the Grand Old Party can do to come back to its lost prominence is to bring back its old leaders.

The observer suggests that the Congress can invite TMC leader Mamata Banerjee to rejoin the party and offer her the top most post, which Rahul Gandhi no longer wants to hold.

Actually, the West Bengal leader deserves that seat. She is not an alien to the Congress – she was once the most prominent leader of the party.

For such a move to get materialised, some of the Congress leaders should shed their ego at first, and they should stop thinking as a selfish individual.

Actually, it was not on the day of the ouster of the Congress party from the seat of power in the centre that the degradation of the first powerful political party of the country started. But, it really started on the day the Congress started behaving as if it is a family party.

It is high time to correct that mistake. The party may not get a chance in future if it misses this golden opportunity.
