Neeraj returns in gold; Grand welcome for all the players

Neeraj Chopra returns to India after winning gold in javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics. Hundreds of people thronged the Delhi airport to see and congratulate Neeraj, who arrived at the airport wearing a gold medal.

Neeraj went straight from the airport to a reception hosted by the Sports Ministry at the Ashoka Hotel. Neeraj was welcomed in the function with great applause.

Neeraj said at the ceremony that the gold he won in Tokyo belonged to the country. Neeraj said that he always walks with the medal in his pocket and even though he has not been sleeping properly for days, when he looks at this medal, he forgets all about it.

The competition in Tokyo was fierce. But never be afraid of the power of your opponents. Dedicate 100% of our ability. Do not be afraid of anyone. When I finished the second attempt of the match, I realized that it was my best attempt. “I had severe pain in my arm and shoulder after the match,” Neeraj said.

All the medal winners were honored at the ceremony. Malayalee goalkeeper PR Sreejesh described Savita Poonia, the goalkeeper of the women’s hockey team, as the Great Wall of India. “Unfortunately, the women’s team lost the medal, but they made the country proud,” Sreejesh said.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, Union Minister Kiran Rijiju and Union Minister Nisit Pramanik were also present on the occasion.
