Nation pays homage to ‘Iron Lady of Indian Politics’: Amma’s loyalist is inducted as new CM

In this sorrowful day, lakhs of people and thousands of leaders flooded to Rajaji Hall to pay homage to their beloved ‘Amma’ who unexpectedly died on last day at Chennai.   In order to avoid the state of statelessness, the ‘Amma’s loyalist’, O Panneerselvam, reluctantly assumed the top post as the CM of Tamil Nadu early today. His loyalty towards the ‘Amma’ was clearly evident when he carried a photo of J Jayalalithaa in his pocket during the oath-taking-ceremony. Apart from Tamil Nadu, several other states, including Kerala and Karnataka, declared a public holiday today. The centre government already announced one-day-mourning. It is learned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers and leaders of neighbouring states, union ministers and parliament members, and film actors will visit Rajaji Hall to pay homage. The security installations were beefed up across the state and along the borders to avoid all possible dangers as the Tamil Nadu people were emotionally attached to their leader to an extreme level. Experts claimed that even for the intelligence force, it is very difficult to predict how the Tamilians will react to this unfortunate incident. As per the media report, the funeral function will take place at Marina Beach in afternoon near the memorial of MGR.
