Mumbai to Become First in Having Mobile Medical Shops
Mumbai is looking ahead to become the country’s first city on having a mobile generic medical shop. The aim behind this is to provide low-cost, but effective medicines to the needy. Prabodhan Aushadh Pedhi, a Goregaon-based NGO is getting and in-principal approval from the Centre for starting at least two such mobile shops. It is said that these shops will have an outdoor department for the patients with a doctor who will check the patients and prescribe the needed medicines for them. A proposal for this was put forward two years ago but got its approval from the Union Minister of chemicals and fertilizers, Hansraj Ahir only recently. It was also stated that these generic medicines will cost 100 and 300 times lesser than the branded ones. Prabodhan Aushadh Pedhi has already four generic medical shops in Goregaon (West and East), Malad East and Prabhadevi and next places to have medical shops are in Vile Parje, Borivali and Thane.
