Minister Mathew T Thomas resigns
One of the cabinet ministers of the Left Democratic Front government of the Indian state of Kerala, Mathew T Thomas has resigned from his post today, paving way for the induction of K Krishnankutty from his party (JD(S)) to the post he has vacated.
The resignation has come after the JD(S) central leadership directed the minister to do so in the meeting held in the presence of several central leaders and the leaders of two powerful factions in the state unit of the party a couple of days ago.
As per a report, though during the meeting the faction supporting the Thiruvalla MLA opposed the plea for resignation from the other faction stating that there were no agreement that the minister should resign his post within two and half years from the time of induction, the central leadership supported the view presented by the faction backing the Chittor MLA that there was a unofficial agreement that the minister should resign from the post once the LDF government completes its half term.
K Krishnankutty is likely to be inducted as the water resource minister (the position from which Mr Thomas has resigned) within few days.
The political development has jolted the state unit of the JD(S) slightly. There are rumours that in the coming days the state is going to witness a serious political crisis in connection with this political development.
