Meesho Faces ₹1,500 Crore Tax Demand for FY24
E-commerce marketplace Meesho has received an income tax demand of nearly ₹1,500 crore for the assessment year 2023–24, according to a stock exchange filing on March 7. The demand totals ₹1,499.73 crore, including interest, and was issued through an assessment order under Section 143(3) of the Income Tax Act along with a demand notice under Section 156. The company said it plans to challenge the order through legal channels.
Meesho stated that it disagrees with the observations and adjustments made by the tax authorities and believes it has sufficient legal and factual grounds to contest the demand. The company added that it is taking necessary steps to protect its interests and clarified that the tax notice is not expected to have any material adverse impact on its financial position or business operations at this stage.
This is the second such tax dispute for the company. A similar demand related to the assessment year 2022–23 is currently pending before the Karnataka High Court, which granted an interim stay on the notice in April 2025. The latest development comes shortly after Meesho reported a sharp rise in quarterly losses despite strong growth in revenue, orders, and active users.
