New Zealand Ready to Silence India in T20 World Cup Final
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner says his team is ready to handle the pressure and spoil the party for hosts India national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Speaking ahead of the clash in Ahmedabad, Santner said the Black Caps are comfortable being underdogs and believe a strong team performance could help them secure their first-ever T20 World Cup title.
New Zealand booked their place in the final after a dominant nine-wicket win over South Africa national cricket team in the semi-final. Santner acknowledged that more than 100,000 fans are expected at Narendra Modi Stadium, but said his side’s aim will be to stay calm and focus on executing their game plan despite the overwhelming support for India.
The New Zealand skipper also highlighted the importance of taking early wickets to slow India’s powerful batting lineup and praised all-rounder Cole McConchie for stepping up after replacing the injured Michael Bracewell. Santner added that while the final is a huge occasion, the team will try to treat it like any other match as they chase their maiden T20 world title.
