Mathura violence: top court to hear plea seeking CBI probe today

Around a week after the violent confrontation between the police officials and a group of encroachers at Mathura in UP, the Supreme Court of India on last day had decided to hear a plea seeking CBI probe into the infamous Mathura Violence. Around twenty four people including two top police officials were killed in the fatal violence that jolted the Uttar Pradesh on last week. Reports say that a vacation bench of the SC headed by Justice PC Ghose had on last day decided to give urgent consideration in the issue identifying the seriousness of the case. The petitioner stated that the evident are being destroyed so the case needs a strong investigation immediately. Seeking a CBI probe into the case, the petitioner added that the court should immediately consider the issue taking into account the gravity of the case.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured that if UP government directs the case to centre, the central investigative agency will probe the case. He reportedly dared the UP government to ask for a central investigation on the Mathura violence. In addition, BJP president Amit Shah alleged that a senior minister of the SP-led UP government is responsible for the crime. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party members strongly retorted the political statement of BJP, saying the BJP should present the evidence or else give a public apology. However, the issue has been largely politicized, and it is making negative impact on the investigation. It seems that a creative interference of the top court is inevitable at this stage.
