Kidnapped Indian-Origin Family Including Baby Found Dead In Orchard In US
According to reports cited by news agency PTI, four members of an Indian-origin family from the US—including an eight-month-old girl who had been missing for days—were discovered dead in an orchard in California.
Aroohi Dheri, who is eight months old, and her parents, Jasleen Kaur, 27, and Jasdeep Singh, 36, were taken on Monday at a trucking firm in Merced County, Northern California. Amandeep Singh, the baby’s 39-year-old uncle, was also taken hostage, according to Merced County police.
The remains of the four people were discovered on Wednesday night in an orchard close to Indiana Road & Hutchinson Road, according to Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke. The victims were discovered nearby the orchard, according to the police, and a farm worker found them before calling for help.
“There are no words to describe the anger I feel,” Sherrif Warnke said during a press conference Wednesday evening, as quoted by news agency PTI.
The moment the family was abducted is captured on video that was made public by the police on Wednesday. In the footage, Jasdeep and Amandeep can be seen leaving the store with their hands bound. A short while later, the baby’s mother and the kidnapper can be seen exiting the building. The family’s four members were then escorted into a truck and driven away from the scene.
A day after the family was abducted, the police detained Jesus Manuel Salgado, 48, a suspected kidnapper who had allegedly tried to commit suicide. Salgado is currently recuperating in a medical facility.
Salgado’s relatives phoned the authorities, according to the Merced County police, and indicated that he had confessed to his crime.
Dr. Randhir Singh and Kirpal Kaur, the parents of Jasdeep, come from the Harsi Pind hamlet in the Tanda block of Hoshiarpur.
